The Humber Freeport Board is beginning the process to appoint a new Chair after Simon Bird resigned from the position.
Having recently returned to his home in the North West after stepping down as Regional Director, Humber, at Associated British Ports, Mr Bird decided it was the right time to relinquish the role of Chair of the Humber Freeport Board.
Mr Bird said: “My time as Chair of Humber Freeport is a period of my career in which I take immense pride, having been involved in leading the bid, establishing the Freeport and making the vision a reality.
“I would like to place on record my appreciation for the support I have personally received from the four local council leaders, along with their respective officers, and that of my fellow Board members.”
Mr Bird spearheaded the process of securing freeport status for the region and has led the Freeport Board since the organisation was formally established in summer 2023.
Humber Freeport CEO Simon Green said: “Simon’s leadership and drive has been critical in establishing Humber Freeport and in putting in place very strong foundations for the organisation to continue to deliver for the region.
“The Board would like to thank Simon for his invaluable contribution. He has championed Humber Freeport from the very outset and leaves us very well placed to create a legacy of investment and growth for the region well into the future.”
The Humber Freeport Board is now beginning the process of seeking candidates for the new Chair and will put in place arrangements to ensure effective governance is maintained during the interim period.
