Humber Freeport’s CEO has joined fellow leaders in signing a section of steel to mark a key construction milestone at an Associated British Ports (ABP) development in Immingham.
Simon Green joined dignitaries including the Mayor of Greater Lincolnshire, local MPs and representatives from ABP and North East Lincolnshire Council to mark work moving forward on the first phase of the 227-acre HELM industrial and logistics park.
HELM’s first phase will provide modern, purpose-built space for businesses operating in sectors including manufacturing, ports logistics, energy and engineering.
Over 650 tonnes of structural steel will be installed as part of the first phase of development at HELM, creating 103,000 sq ft of space across eight units, located close to the A180 and the major Humber estuary ports at Immingham and Grimsby
Andrew Dawes, ABP’s Regional Director for the Humber ports, said: “This major milestone for the development of these business units is moving at pace, and for Associated British Ports is demonstrating our commitment to UK trade and the regional economy.
“We are the Humber’s number one gateway for global commerce, and this steel signing ceremony reinforces our position in continually investing and evolving our port facilities.”

The steel-signing event on site involved representatives from North East Lincolnshire Council and Humber Freeport, alongside Mayor of Greater Lincolnshire Andrea Jenkyns, Brigg and Immingham MP Martin Vickers, and Melanie Onn, MP for Grimsby and Cleethorpes.
HELM is supported by Humber Freeport through its seed capital fund, designed to stimulate and accelerate investments which are seen as strategically important for regional economic growth.
Other projects to have received seed capital funding include an expansion at industry training provider CATCH at Stallingborough, North East Lincolnshire; Ideal Heating’s UK Technology Centre in Hull; waste management service RE:Group’s facility for the treatment of waste oil on a derelict site in Bankside, Hull; and the South Humber Industrial Investment Programme (SHIIP) to improve port infrastructure at Immingham and Grimsby.
Humber Freeport CEO Simon Green said: “We’re delighted to have worked with ABP and North East Lincolnshire Council to support the HELM development, which will create high-quality, sustainable industrial space for growing businesses in the energy, ports, manufacturing and engineering sectors.
“Developments like HELM reinforce the Humber’s role as a gateway for international trade, broadening supply chain opportunities and underlining the region’s status as a leading cluster for manufacturing, clean energy and logistics.”
Cllr Philip Jackson, Leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “ABP’s new HELM development will further strengthen the local economy, providing additional quality business units in a much-desired industrial area close to the Port of Immingham.”
