Humber Freeport Innovation Liaison Group (FILG)

Who are we?

A sub committee of the Humber Freeport Company, the Humber FILG is represented by organisations, institutions and businesses that can help further develop the Innovation Strand of the Humber Freeport, regularly feeding in ideas and priorities on Freeport Innovation related matters to the Freeport Company Board. We also act as a conduit for engagement with the Freeport Company, Government, and its regulatory network (FREN) helping to shape innovation policy and breakdown local and national barriers.

We promote and support collaboration between stakeholders and industry on the development of hotbeds of innovation for the Humber Freeport and want to ensure that the Freeport opportunity adds value with a particular innovation focus on green energy, industrial decarbonisation, ports and logistics, MedTech and the agrifood sector, including seafood processing.

The FILG produces and reviews the Innovation Strategy for Humber Freeport, highlighting delivery and investment opportunities, proposing key actions/activities in relation to these, and making connections to local Economic Plans for Growth and existing/emerging funding streams. We also develop recommendations and supporting material for Freeport Company decisions, which in time will include innovation led investment proposals.

We aim to build on, amplify and complement existing innovation across the Humber estuary and thus have developed a business engagement strategy to help pull together the innovation eco-system for the Humber which includes events, workshops and hub-based support known as the Humber Freeport Innovation Collective (HFIC).
